I store most of my net worth in stables and other pegged¹ assets, and one risk I think isn’t taken seriously enough in pegged assets is the risk that a company can simply be fraudulent. Algorithmic stables get rightful concern about their design risk, but nobody really takes the counterparty risk of USDt because tether gets regular attestations except a lot can happen in three months. Tether claims it holds (x) quantity of dollars or gold that it mints into USDt or XAUt, but that’s only verified once a quarter, and an attestation isn’t a full audit anyway - it’s a snapshot that confirms the numbers matched on a single day, not that the reserves weren’t borrowed, reallocated or misrepresented for the other 89 days. If Tether gets hacked, robbed or turns out to be fraudulent, the underlying asset depegs and the token depegs.

Recently stablecoin integrated banks have taken off, allowing people to store stables on your account, enjoy the yield and spend in stores. I do not care much about these things - my desire for stable based banks is simpler - I do not want a private company that can be hacked, turn malicious or make a dumb mistake to know my net worth. I’m relatively tolerant to the government knowing my assets and net worth upon request (or when I file yearly) but a private company? no to me that is unacceptable.

Stress is fatal	“Does this actually matter?”, “Am I volunteering for extra stress?” acute stressors are fine, chronic are not - most of your time should be stress free
Stretching	Useful for nervous system and spine/brain health
Eat Light	Eat till 80% full, lots of fruit and veg
Exercise	Mostly cardio, some strength training
If you can be outside, be outside	anything you’re doing that can reasonably be done outside should be, you’d be shocked how often you can work outside on your laptop
Be slightly cold	It’s better to be slightly cold when working
You get 4 hours	You get about 4 hours of good work per day, anything past that usually isn’t worth it, act accordingly
Be prosocial	prosocial is the opposite of antisocial, you’re not an introvert you just have atrophied social skills

Learning maths and basic physics improves basically everything and is incredibly functional
Learning statistics is very useful
Game theory basically always applies

I love the internet, it’s a place of freedom, it’s an open meadow for as far as the eye can see - from this brilliant people like bezos, zuckerberg and more have been able to completely shape society, culture and global trade in a completely permissionless fashion.

But once they’ve built their empires on that permissionlessness, they pull the ladder up behind them. The internet gets carved into walled gardens, participation costs more, anonymity gets stripped away, and suddenly you need to give every website your ID just to use it (the online child safety act was mostly pushed by meta behind the scenes, spending millions). The goal is complete regulatory capture of the entire net.¹

Why I dislike time units

Time is a terrible unit for estimating how long things will take. If I ask you how long it’ll take to read one chapter of a book you’ll probably give me a number - say, twenty minutes. If I ask you the exact same question on a day you’re stressed, anxious, overworked, or fighting off a cold you’ll give me the same answer. Twenty minutes. Your brain doesn’t instinctively factor in your current state when producing time estimates, it just retrieves a cached average and serves it up like it means something.

The british government has become increasingly involved in regulating tech, I’m not going to talk about their specific implementations because mostly it’s unknown and highly speculative. Considering the public outcry it’s clear the government has no intention to listen to the people on the issue of regulation which considering how technically illiterate the average person is this is not the worst thing in the world, I’m going to work under the assumption that the government is honest about their intentions because anything else requires me to make up completely unsupported headcannon and fanfics about politicians and political parties the other only requires me to believe the government is mostly incompetant.

A month of using NixOS.

Using nixos for a month gave me headaches, I’m never using anything else.

Nix/NixOS

Some basic terminology, Nix is a package manager, a way to install software. Similar to yay, apt or homebrew.

However it focuses on reproducible builds - to avoid being overly technical - if it works on my hardware it should work on yours. It’s also worth noting nix has more packages than any other software manager so regardless of your os/platform you should consider using it.

Milad's story about Mr Beast is (likely) not credible.

This is a public prediction I firmly (0.7) do not believe that mr beast scammed milad out of bitcoin.

in this video we can see the claim made

it took from 2021 till now to realise someone scamming you to gamble means they likely scammed others (unlikely)
“keeping this dude accountable” means making a tiktok and not filing any legal charges when the claim is mr beast owes you 20k he’s not paying back (possible since you profit from online exposure)
“gamble it away in under 4 minutes”

Interesting to note there was an entire 1 hour gap between mr beast recieving the bitcoin and sending it off to gamble with which is weird to not mention, also worth noting he seemingly split the transaction which shouldn’t happen if you’re sending money from yourself to you casino of choice and if mr beast was gambling with 10k instead of 20k milad should have noticed and mentioned it
instant victim narrative even though right now hating on mr beast is popular
“many witnesses” but doesn’t name or provide a single one
“Many people work for you and I don’t want to effect them” after publically attacking the mr beast brand for a matter that could have been handled privately

it’s worth noting the transaction did occur and they do align with when milad would have been talking to mr beast and milad does seem to originate the transactions but the transactions don’t follow the expected behaviour of gambling, the money is sent to an exchange then moved from the exchange to a casino in split transactions, now if you look at arkham analysis it might seem like milad sent btc to a casino but we can monitor amounts and know this isn’t mr beast, which means even though we can confirm at the time coinbase had no issue with sending btc directly to casinos instead mr beast a gambling addict who needed to borrow 20k instead sent the btc to his own wallet to then send to two different wallet one of which goes through about 4 different wallets before hitting stake.com then on the second split (which uses a different address type) That then bounces again until it hits a wallet that is seemingly not a casino or an exchange. That means if we go by what we know milad saw the following

ENS or ethereum name service in my view solves a lot of annoyances with traditional domain providers such as WHOIS, KYC and seizure ↩︎
IPFS is essentially a network similar to torrents allowing for very resistent websites/services etc, each build has a hash that anyone could pin giving them a locally copy or if they want the ability to allow others to download the site off them, I pin my site in two locations so one layer of redundancy. ↩︎
